Our classes, workshops and socials are designed to push you past your limits, whether you are an absolute beginner, intermediate or advanced dancer.

Welcome to Haliente Creative Studio!

Dance is not a competition, it’s a passion

Haliente Creative Studio's vision is to offer a space that allows dancers to grow. We have been located in downtown Halifax since 2016, originally under the name Salsa Dura. Our goal, then, now and always is to provide dancers of all levels and backgrounds a place for creative self-expression, exercise, education  and social interaction. We offer a variety of classes, social dances, events and dance programs with price options for all levels of interest.

Come dance with us at our next social or event!

Our creative studio space is perfect for movement-based activities such as dance, rehearsals, classes, workshops, special events, and performances. Haliente Creative Studio is also open to arts-based (professional and amateur) activities such as photography, theatre, and art exhibits.

Overlooking Barrington Street from the second floor is Studio 1 (1,200 square feet of open space with10-foot ceiling).  This space has only improved with age. Its classic, Georgian-style is complemented by a modern touch that makes this studio a truly creative space. Also overlooking Barrington Street, but from the third floor, is  Studio 2 (1200 square feet of open space with a 9-foot ceiling) which has been newly renovated into a modern style studio, with a touch Georgian....

Both studios are fully equipped with HVAC, mirrors, sound systems and numerous lighting options. Each studio has its own washroom, common area, change area and elevator.

Whether you're an absolute beginner or an advanced dancer, you will feel at home with us. Our Salsa & Bachata socials and events are designed to adapt to all levels and styles. A mixture of classic and modern salsa, traditional Bachata and Kizomba are each picked for their groove, upbeat, downbeat, and musicality to keep you dancing all night long.

Our mission is to create a dance-based atmosphere that's welcoming to all. Our objective is to share, celebrate and immerse people of all ages in the beautiful Afro-Latino dance culture.

Frequently asked questions

What should I wear to classes or socials/events? Do I need special shoes?

No dress code. Dress comfortably and dress light. Wear something you can move around and dance in! For socials we have theme nights. In general, our philosphy for attire is dress to impress yourself! Beginners can start with street shoes or dress shoes that have ankle-straps (support) with medium-height heels or any flat-bottom shoes or regular dancing shoes. Avoid wearing shoes that have thick rubber soles such as sneakers, clogs, boots or flip-flops.

Is previous dance experience necessary?

Previous experience is not required for our Absolute Beginner or 4 Week Courses. You will need prior experience for our drop-in classes. Please read our descriptions on the schedule by clicking each class name to see how much experience is required for the level.

What if I sign up for classes and I have an emergency or miss a class or two?

All class packages have an expiration date. If you miss a class, you will have the chance to take another in the next term or the following week.

What are the refund policies?

Class packages are non-refundable and non-transferable. There are also no extensions.

How much do lessons cost?

Do I need to pre-register for a class or can I just show up at the studio?

Yes, please register for each class online before coming to the studio. This guarantees your spot in the class as they do fill up quickly. Registering online speeds up the check-in process at the studio. It also ensures you cans start your class on time. Sign up online at haliente.ca/omnify.com. If you prefer to pay cash, please email us at info@haliente.ca

I don’t have a dance partner…is it necessary to bring a partner?

No partner necessary for any of our classes, socials or events. We rotate frequently in the class so that everyone has the chance to practice with a partner. For socials and events, we encourage you to ask everyone to dance. To help you break the ice, we always have a team member on site that you can ask for a dance.
